The building had no lift and no space for an internal shaft. Any addition had to respect the façade, withstand salt-laden sea air and be installed while residents continued to live in the building.

Panoramic glass lift, Sliema seafront residence
An external panoramic lift added to a seven-storey seafront building, giving every apartment step-free access and sea views on the way up.
The challenge
Our solution
We designed an external, self-supporting steel and glass shaft on the side elevation, with a machine-room-less traction lift from Kleemann. All steelwork received an anti-corrosive marine coating, and the installation was scheduled floor by floor to keep disruption to a minimum.
